I’m going to create a fun mini-dictionary with some of the main terms used in the world of wines. I hope you enjoy it!


Discover the Key Terms of the Wine World in this Fun Mini Dictionary

Wine lover – a person who is passionate about wines and loves to try different types and flavors.

Tannin – a substance present in the skin and seeds of grapes, which gives wine a sensation of astringency and bitter taste.

Bouchoné – French term to describe a wine that tastes like a cork.

Bodega – a warehouse or cellar where wines are stored and aged.

Body – the sensation of weight and density that a wine has in the mouth. A wine with more body is usually fuller and denser.

Terroir – the natural and geographical environment in which the grapes are grown, including soil, climate, and other environmental factors that affect the wine’s taste.

Sommelier – a wine expert who can help select and serve wines in restaurants and other establishments.

Rosé – a wine made with red grapes but not left in contact with the skins long enough to become a red wine.

Cavas – sparkling wine produced in the Spanish region of Penedès, usually made with Macabeu, Xarel-lo, and Parellada grapes.
